Why Port Orleans is the Best Moderate

In 2001, Disney joined together two different resorts, Port Orleans and Dixie Landings, to make the largest resort on property: Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter. Even though it’s huge, Port Orleans still encompasses a quaint feeling as you enjoy the beauty of and tranquility of the Deep South in the heart of Disney World.

Here are five reasons why Port Orleans is best moderate resort:

It is the most romantic moderate! The paths at Port Orleans Riverside are lined with gas lamps and are dimly lit during the evening. This makes for a wonderfully romantic stroll around the largest resort on Disney property. The French Quarter is complete with Magnolia blossoms and wrought iron railings. Take a romantic walk along the beautiful Sassagoula River’s walking path or book an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage ride for an extra special romantic treat!

You can take a boat to Disney Springs! This is a great way to travel quickly to and from the best shopping and dining area on Disney property. Along with boat transportation, you have access to a marina! Rent a watercraft for a ride on the Sassagoula River, rent a bicycle for a scenic ride, or grab a cane pole and try a little fishing.
Stay in a Royal Room! You get Deluxe décor at a moderate price! Value resorts only have a double bed. Once you hit the moderates, you upgrade to queen! It might not feel like a big difference, but after a long day at the parks you will appreciate it. Feel even more regal by booking one of the Royal Guest rooms that are definitely fit for a queen (or king). The swimming pools feature waterslides and a spa- both of which you can get at a deluxe hotel. You don’t have to pay deluxe to enjoy deluxe amenities!

There are outstanding dining opportunities! Riverside Mill Food Court features a working mill water wheel and has a beautiful view. There are a variety of food stations to choose from. Although Boatwright’s is only open for dinner, it has a scrumptious selection featuring Cajun cuisine, steaks, and seafood.

Entertainment is available on property! River Roost Lounge is THE place to be at Port Orleans Riverside. Yehaa Bob is talented and fun. Make sure you grab a cocktail and appetizer because you won’t be going anywhere for a while. This might be the best reason to stay at Port Orleans Riverside. French Quarter has wonderful entertainment as well as it is the home to Scat Cat’s Club. You can’t go wrong with live southern jazz music. Happy 5 Year Anniversary Disney Dream! What’s so amazing about these cruise ships is, true to Walt Disney’s vision, they are never completed or finished. They’re constantly being added to, elaborated on, and embellished. One of the newest additions to the Dream is Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats, a brand new store on the ship inspired by the candy videogame realms of Wreck-it Ralph, which sells ice cream, candy, and other sweet confections. These are just some mouth-watering treats you will find at Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats!

This sundae packs three scoops of ice cream, five toppings, whipped cream and a cherry in a souvenir race kart. It is beyond delicious and perfect if you have a friend or loved one who loves ice cream amazingness as much as you do.

This strawberry cupcake is wonderful and not, in the least bit overwhelming. (Our notes say “light” and “not-too-sweet.”) It’s a strawberry cupcake with candied sprinkles, vanilla frosting and, as a topping, an edible embellishment that looks like the medal Vanellope gives Ralph at the end of the movie.  S’mores can be gooey and cumbersome and you can’t eat them while sitting by the pool. Which is where this s’mores cookie bar comes in handy. The cookies are great and the marshmallow filling is a fluffy cream that really hits the spot.Another wonder treat is the Oreo Mickey Cookie Pop, which looks like it could have come out of the Sugar Rush video game in Wreck-It Ralph. It’s brightly colored and delicious, and is super chocolate-y and moist. It’s like a supercharged cake pop and we couldn’t have been happier with it.  There are so many more goodies so be sure to check out Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats!!

Tiffins, the Newest Dining Experience At Walt Disney World Resort

The newest Walt Disney World table-service restaurant is part of the biggest expansion in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Tiffins, in the park’s Discovery Island area, opens this summer with dishes inspired by the world travels of the park’s creators.

“Tiffin” is the Indian word for a lunchbox used by travelers (also a mid-day meal), and the 252-seat restaurant in the park’s Discovery Island area will open daily for lunch and dinner with menus that takes diners to Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.

A detailed map within the restaurant’s entryway sets the stage for an immersive dining experience celebrating world travel, with bold artwork derived from sketches, journals and research from those who created the theme park.

“Tiffins is the signature restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, celebrating the culture of design and research that went into creating this unique park,” said Emily O’Brien, Walt Disney Imagineering executive show producer for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

O’Brien describes the interior design as “a gallery you can dine in with artwork that is a direct result of travels to Africa, Asia and South America which influenced the design of the park.” The ideas of the park’s design team, including sketches, photography, architecture and textures, are all presented in a way that is uniquely Disney.

“All the senses are explored and turned into amazing works of art,” said O’Brien. “The galleries, or dining rooms, focus on Asia [Trek Gallery with 74 seats] and Africa [Safari Gallery with 64 seats], and the third [Grand Gallery with 114 seats] pays homage to animal species that the Disney Conservation Fund works to protect.”

The travel-inspired artwork includes a static, three-dimensional piece that features prayer flags blowing in the wind. “As our research team traveled up the high mountains of Nepal, the winds were strong,” explained O’Brien. “The prayer flags are rarely seen hanging, they are always blowing.” This portrayal of the motion is realistically captured in the display which will hang above a corner booth in the Trek Gallery.

“Tiffins is not about a make-believe place, it’s about real people and places,” said O’Brien.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is about the intrinsic value of nature, transformation through adventure and a personal call to action, and the adjacent Nomad Lounge brings into focus these core values. With beautiful waterfront views, the lounge focuses on storytelling, and also on guests’ travels, with large banners as “artistic representations” of answers to travel questions written on the perimeter wall. For instance, “what do you always do when traveling” or “what was your most adventurous moment?”

“We’re trying to tell the story of how guests can make a change,” said O’Brien. While the answers of Disney experts are displayed, guests also have the opportunity to purchase a tag that supports the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund and to write their own answers to the questions to display above the bar– a way to share their own travel stories “so they can be a part of the story,” said O’Brien.

Major Upgrades To Fastpass+ At Walt Disney World

Per WDW News: Starting April 10th, a series of very important upgrades will be made to your FastPass+ experience at Walt Disney World.

After booking their initial 1-to-3 FastPass+ reservations (you will now have the option to book anywhere between one and three, not forced to pick 3 initially), guests will now be able to book an additional and even further FP+ reservations through the MyDisneyExperience app. These can be made one at a time, so once you finish your initial reservations that were made in advance, then you may book another. With every additional FP+, you are able to just book one at a time and only book another once the previous are completed (as the system works now, but you will be able to book additional FastPass+ yourself through the mobile app or website, and book for another park if you plan to switch).

With the upgraded system, guests will be able to choose an attraction and time for the attraction simultaneously, instead of simply hoping that a time they wanted would be suggested after making their three initial attraction choices. This should allow guests to better customize their daily plans to their liking.

Other new features include the ability to remove individual guests from a FastPass+ reservation and the ability to cancel a single FastPass+ attraction reservation instead of all of them.

With these changes implemented, the Quick Picks FP+ option will be removed.

Guests will see significant changes to the look of the app (and kiosk interface) on April 10th, 2016, but larger changes that will make the app look and function more like the new official Disneyland Resort app are still expected at a later date.

Meet the Cugini at Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters at Disney California Adventure Park

The party is going strong at Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, the all-new attraction in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park! To celebrate race day in Radiator Springs, 20 of Luigi’s “cugini” (cousins) traveled all the way from Carsoli, Italy, to visit his Casa della Tires and kick off the fun.

“Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters brings fun and zippy new car characters to Cars Land. You could say that because they’re Luigi’s cousins – his ‘kin,’ if you will – they also bring exciting new kin-etics!” said Kevin Rafferty, Executive Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering.
